How it works

UniThrive lets you give back to your alma mater in a personal way – by lending money directly to a student. You get to pick which student gets your money and how much of it. Best of all, you get repaid while seeing the student succeed as he or she goes through school and beyond.

Your money will create actual positive change in a student’s life. You will be helping him or her receive a college education, laying the foundation for later success. UniThrive facilitates communication between you and your student borrowers, so you can become an active mentor in their lives. In fact, when you lend to a student, he or she will be required to provide you updates periodically throughout the year.

The loan

The loan is interest-free. We figure that for a successful alumnus like you, forgoing interest for a few years on no more than a few hundred dollars does not represent a crippling loss of revenue. And that money can really help a student, not to mention the intangible benefits you receive from personally investing in the success of the next generation is more than enough to offset whatever interest you could earn on your money.

Repayment

You will be repaid starting the January after a student graduates. All UniThrive loans have a 5-year maturity and are repaid in quarterly installments. We handle all the financial transactions in a secure manner and ensure that the money goes directly to the tuition office, thereby precluding any chances of fraud.

Fellow alumni

UniThrive also acts as a social network of like-minded alumni from your alma mater. Reconnect with old friends or make new ones who share your passion for giving back and helping the next generation.

Privacy and security

We verify a user’s status as either a current undergraduate or alumnus of an institution via checks on their official university-given email addresses, so you can be sure that you’re always communicating with members of your alma mater's community. To maintain student privacy, only alumni can view student profiles on the site. To maintain your privacy, you can customize which students can see your profile and/or contact you.

UniThrive offers the use of a secure server.  The server software UniThrive utilizes encrypts all information you input before it is sent to UniThrive, so financial transactions are protected.
